Student Comments from VCU Course Evaluations

Profe is very understanding of his students and makes accommodations for those who do not have the easiest time in school or stressful settings similar to school. His course is interesting and unique, and you can tell he really cares about both his coursework
and his students a great deal.

SPAN 307-002 Student, Fall 2019

He is the best professor ever, and genuinely cares about his students. His energy and passion for Spanish is super admirable.

SPAN 307-002 Student, Fall 2019

An awesome professor that is really supportive, understanding, and encouraging. Makes the class really fair, fun, and interesting and so glad to have taken the course with him. I would 100% take it again.

SPAN 307-002 Student, Fall 2019
This class was very fun and a great way to learn about Hispanic culture. I loved the movies and Prof. Brinckwirth made it easy to have discussions and understand the material. One thing that could be improved is the organization and clarity of the assignments.

SPAN 307-002 Student, Fall 2019

Sometimes it was hard to understand when things were due because the schedule and dates were constantly being changed. Sometimes the changes would not be obvious because they were not said clearly in class or said in an email all the time. This
would help me better prepare for assignments that are due. Otherwise, this was a great class and I learned a lot, especially from discussions in class and over Tandem.

SPAN 307-002 Student, Fall 2019

One the best professors I have ever had. He seemed to genuinely care for the success and the well being of all of the student and was always there for support. Would definitely recommend this class and professor to other students.

SPAN 307-002 Student, Fall 2019

He was my favorite professor this semester. I felt very comfortable emailing him and asking questions whenever I had doubts. I would definitely take another course with him as being the professor.

SPAN 307-002 Student, Fall 2019

He was very engaged with students and allowed us all to shine. Even if we weren't the best at Spanish he made us feel like stars in his own way.

SPAN 307-002 Student, Fall 2019

He was very engaged with students and allowed us all to shine. Even if we weren't the best at Spanish he made us feel like stars in his own way.

SPAN 307-002 Student, Fall 2019

It was a good class but because of the wide range of skill levels in the room, it was really easy for someone more advanced. Maybe holding us to higher standards in terms of when work was expected to be done would be better – if a movie is to be watched by Tuesday, students shouldn't be struggling to answer questions about the plot almost two weeks later because they haven't watched it yet. The tandem sessions in the course were the most helpful and engaging.

SP{AN 307-001, Fall 2019

Dedicated teacher that greatly cares for his students and the material he is teaching.

SPAN 307-001, Fall 2019

The greatest professor I've ever had! very willing and understanding when it comes to helping his students succeed.

SPAN 307-001, Spring 2019

he's a good teacher but sometimes too easy of a grader

Professor Brinckwirth,
You have done a phenomenal job stimulating conversation among students about serious issues touched on the films. You humbly recognize the limits of your knowledge and always made an effort to point out the nuance of specific topics of discussion. You fostered an ambiance in which we felt comfortable to relay our ideas even if they needed refinement; you allowed us to work through the articulation of our ideas, which enabled us to not only develop our Spanish but our skills of argumentation as well. You embody distinguished professorship as you take in interest in the success of your students and make a relatively big class feel small; I hope to one day teach as passionately as you.

SPAN 307-002, Spring 2019

Professor Brinckwirth is the most genuine, caring instructor I've encountered in my time at VCU. So many professors are
performative in their support of students, but Professor Brinckwirth really does care about the success and welfare of his class. He prioritizes class discussions, making sure that everyone has the chance to contribute to the themes in question. He goes out of his way to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to succeed in his class, and has a remarkable ability to make every student feel
important. Professor Brinckwirth is a credit to the Foreign Language Program and to VCU as a whole.

SPAN 307-002, Spring 2019

He is an excellent professor. The movies he chose highlighted different social issues and allowed for productive discussions in the classroom. He himself was a great moderator and was understanding of both perspectives or how some ideas came to be. If he
didn't know something or erred, he would do further research then admit his error and convey what is true.

SPAN 307-002, Spring 2019

Professor Brinckwirth is awesome.
