International Collaborations
21st-century Internationalization in Higher Education
I quickly recognized the potential for connecting language education to the broader internationalization movement in higher education. International partnerships provide valuable opportunities for language educators, faculty, and institutions to collaborate across borders while creating meaningful learning experiences for students. Through my work with educators and institutions abroad, I have been able to:
- Pair language learners with vetted EFL students abroad for authentic immersion and intercultural communication;
- Build international communities of practice focused on virtual exchange, language learning, and educational innovation;
- Collaborate with faculty and language centers abroad to co-design learning experiences that address real curricular needs;
- Support internationalization efforts through virtual exchange, research collaborations, and global partnerships.
Whether through virtual exchange, study abroad, service-learning, collaborative research, or community engagement initiatives, international partnerships can significantly enrich language programs while strengthening the global dimensions of teaching and learning.
Strong Virtual Exchange Programs Support Internationalization
Virtual exchange became a central focus of my teaching, research, and professional practice because it provides scalable, sustainable opportunities for global engagement. When thoughtfully designed and implemented, virtual exchange programs can:
- Increase student engagement and motivation;
- Enhance language learning through authentic communication;
- Strengthen intercultural competence and global awareness;
- Expand opportunities for faculty collaboration and international research;
- Advance institutional internationalization goals while supporting language program growth.
By connecting students, faculty, and institutions across cultures and borders, virtual exchange helps transform internationalization from an aspiration into a lived educational experience.
A Strong Telecollaboration Program Enhances Internationalization
Teletandem became a central focus of my teaching, research, and professional practice because it effectively addresses important needs in the language curriculum while creating meaningful opportunities for global engagement. Well-coordinated telecollaboration programs can:
- Increase student engagement and motivation;
- Enhance language learning through authentic communication and cultural exchange;
- Strengthen intercultural competence and global awareness;
- Revitalize language programs through innovative teaching practices;
- Expand opportunities for faculty collaboration, research, and international partnerships;
- Advance institutional internationalization goals while supporting language program growth.
