The UVA Experience
I earned my Postgraduate Master of Teaching (PGMT) degree from the University of Virginia (UVA) in May 2022, graduating from the School of Education and Human Development (EHD).
This rigorous program provided me with research-backed pedagogical strategies, emphasizing culturally responsive teaching, equitable instruction, and hands-on experience in diverse classrooms. My time at UVA deepened my expertise in public school policy, ESL best practices in Virginia, and multilingual learner instruction.
A central focus of the program was equity in education, multilingualism, and the WIDA English Language Development (ELD) Standards Framework, which informs curriculum, instruction, and assessment for PreK-12 multilingual learners. I developed instructional design skills using Understanding by Design (UbD), aligning ELD, Common Core, and Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) to create engaging, standards-based lessons and assessments.
My experience at UVA’s historic Charlottesville campus refined my skills as a culturally responsive educator, equipping me with the expertise to implement evidence-based teaching strategies in diverse, real-world classrooms.
