Design and Implementation of Learning Systems, UX Design, Digital Media, Network Learning Systems, and E-learning Pedagogy
The School of Information Science and Learning Technologies (SISLT) prepared me for excellence and leadership in designing, developing, and using technology interventions to enhance teaching and learning in secondary and post-secondary classrooms.
The Education Specialist Degree (Ed.Sp.) provided a robust foundation in the design and implementation of engaging and interactive online teaching through learning management systems (LMS), web development, and streaming video. The hybrid curriculum helped me connect my passion for instructional technology and media design to my content areas in Spanish and ESL, and Portuguese.
My MU experience was life-changing.
I was privileged to work under the guidance of teachers who challenged me to design web and media products that improved with each project. My mentors taught me to be resourceful, self-sufficient, and service-oriented. They inspired me to tap deeply into my creativity and explore how media and technology can enhance the teaching and learning of world languages.
As a founding member of SISLT's student-run Digital Media Club in the fall of 2003, I served as the group's first vice president. In its inaugural year, the Club was able to host a digital media expo in the late spring of 2004. The event allowed SISLT students to showcase their ed-tech projects alongside professional vendors attending to demonstrate actual industry products.
Instructional media and technology have evolved significantly since 2004, but I still rely on the technical problem-solving skills I gained in SISLT's Ed.Sp. program.
The Specialist program at the School of Information Science and Learning Technologies (SISLT) equipped me for leadership in designing and implementing educational technology innovations in secondary and post-secondary education. Through specialized training in learning management systems (LMS) and digital media creation, I gained expertise in integrating technology seamlessly into instruction. These skills remain invaluable as I continue to adapt to advancing and evolving technologies, continually refining my teaching practices and workflow efficiencies.
